I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember– the usual “since I was a kid” stuff. That passion never went away, and I never once have I thought I should be doing something else other than art. I’ve done what I can to be what I want to be, and I’ve made lots of mistakes along the way, but that really is the part of the journey.

I’m still in the early stages of growing as an artist, so please watch me get better and better overtime. ^^

Where did the name “Rex” come from?
– Rex is an original character of mine around 2012 (among the many I made, that is). I actually entered the “roleplay” scene and used him as my main front. I never did use my real name online, and so people had referred to me as the same name as my character. Now that I am out of the scene, my attachment to him never went away, and so I decided to develop him further and place him into a world where he is the main character. That’s just a really really long story I’ve cut short into one paragraph. ^__^

What is your medium?
– I’m actually still exploring, but at large, I do digital art (with my trusty tablet) for most of my works (so far…). At the moment, I am training myself with the use of markers, color pencils, and watercolor.

What are your “tools of trade”?
Let’s try to break these into groups.

Digital Art:
-iMac 21.5 inch (2011) …or… Toshiba Satellite L55W-C5257 15,6 inch
-Wacom Intuos 4
-Clip Studio Paint EX

Pens (for inking and line-art):
-Graphik Line Maker
-Faber-Castell PITT artist pen
-Copic Multiliner (smudge proof for copic markers)
-Uniball Signo (White — for highlighting)

Pencils:
-Any 0.5 mm or 0.3 mm mechanical pencil

Markers:
-Copic Sketch/Ciao Markers

Color Pencils:
-Prismacolor Col-Erase (blue, for initial sketching if I plan to scan my lineart)
-Faber-Castell Polychromos

Watercolors:
-Holbein WC 18 CT
-Yarka White Knights 36 CT
-Sakura KOI 24 CT

Watercolor Pencils:
-Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer

Inks:
-Yasutomo Ink
-Rotring Ink (waterproof)
-Diamine Ink (Marine)

Brushes
-Silver Black Velvet (round 6)
-Sapphire (flat 2)
-Kuretake (kolinsky sable)

So as some of you might have read from my previous entry, I gave my siblings a visit at Seattle and stayed there from April 14 - May 15. Two reasons, Sakuracon and BA-con. Of course I was there to stay with my siblings whom I only get to see once a year, 3 at most. I'll make this a quick entry, since I realize I ramble a lot xD

SAKURACON:
Since I didn't get a table this time around, I kept busy primarily the first day with actually cosplaying and organizing a photoshoot. I won't talk about it much, but here's a photo!

Anyway, I took the opportunity to get to know my fellow artists at the alley. I managed to buy some prints and even do some art trades and it was such a pleasure meaning so many amazing people whom I now even get to interact with on social media (mainly twitter and instagram). I collected everyone's business cards and wooooooo boy I love this whole going around and getting to know everybody thing xD But the highlight of my visit was meeting two amazing artists that I really look forward to following and maybe perhaps work with in the future. The artists are Jackie Lo from the blog, Angry Artist Alley and Avelino under the name illustgba << These are their main links! Anyway, I decided to attend an artist meetup that I spotted in the schedule, and I thought this would have been a great time to meet some people. Only a handful came, and I first met Jackie Lo where we had so much to chat just about anything art and artist alley, the struggles that come with it and the realization that branches from all of it. An hour in and when we decided to leave the room since the session was over, Avelino came to us from another table and wanted to see if he can join our little chat session. After 2 amazing hours, I could say that to summarize everything in a couple sentences, you realize that from the competitive nature of tabling comes with just being yourself. Doing fanart and not feeling satisfaction, only to realize that our identity comes from our original work (despite the art style we offer from making fanart, in other words, a great way to start before building yourself as an artist with original work). There were so many other things, but I'll leave that within us. Anyway, check out their pages/blogs! You will learn A LOT as I did.

BA-con:
Unnamed by rexevabonita
This con was the reason why I decided to stay from 5 weeks. I prepared for months, and even made some last minute bookmarks and mini prints. I did art trades with several artists, this time being able to trade even more than I was able to from Sakuracon. There's something about interacting with artists at a smaller scale con. It's humbling, it's inspiring, and most of all, it gives me and fellow artists a better opportunity to interact without the burden of competition. Oh man, SO many great artists. Unforunately, there were two tables that weren't so friendly, in fact, a little bit on the "leave me alone" side, but that's beside the point. I also met this super amazing artist that wasn't even tabling, but he kindly came to my table to show me his portfolio and WOW was I mindblown. Check Wayne Chin out! I saw he's also doing commissions so it's always great to help an artist out~ We might do some art collabs in the future so watch out for those! :D Anyway to sum it up, it was a slow con, but what made it a super amazing one was the fact that I met AND actually connected with so much more artists this time around. I had some artists draw out Rex and Sigyl (my OCs) and MAN THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL!!! I gave them all a shoutout at my instagram via story ^__^

Anyway, I'll end it right here. I did so much more, ate lots of new food, and traveled to many more places, but I'll leave that unmentioned as I always post stories anyway in my instagram ^__^ Hope you enjoyed the read~! LATER <3

Thank you so much hun for the welcome ^^
Yup! White Knights are very vibrant and pigmented! I do have a problem with the odor it gives, it gets me dizzy after a while xD So I use them hand-in-hand with Holbein watercolors!

AND YAY! Final Fantasy~

You have a wonderful week too <3

You're welcome!

Wow, I didn't know some watercolors could give off odors. x.x I guess I'm lucky mine don't (but they're either really cheap or really old). Do the Holbeins smell?

Thank you!

The Holbeins are actually odor free and even more vibrant than White Knights ^^ I tried cheap paints vs student grade vs artist grade paints and it makes sooooo much of a difference! Holbeins are the cheaper yet amazing ones in the market that I've tried ^^
